How do I get skunk spray off my pet?

Mix:

  • 1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (available at the drug store)
  • ¼ cup of baking soda (any grocery store – bakery aisle)
  • 1 teaspoon liquid soap (such as Dawn or Ivory - I like Palmolive because it also paralyzes fleas)

Mix and apply immediately (while it is still fizzing) to the pet, then rinse thoroughly with tap water. For big dogs just increase the recipe (by doubling each amount for instance). Tomato juice helps somewhat but does not remove the smell completely as this will.
