Worlds Smallest Snake Discovered
The Worlds Smallest Snake, a species of thread snake that is thin as a spaghetti noodle and small enough to snuggle up on top of a quarter has been discovered in Barbados. C’mon, no matter how scared you are of them, you’ve got to admit this little guy is kinda cute.

Friday Quote:
“I once decided not to date a guy because he wasn’t excited
to meet my dog. I mean, this was like not wanting to meet my
mother.”

If you can watch this video with a dry eye - I’m not sure you’re really an Animal Nerd.
I feel I do have to say - notice they had to give Christian up.
I am very against exotic animals as pets. Most people are not equipped to provide for an exotic for their entire life. Large animals such as lions, tigers, bears (oh my) as well as snakes and other reptiles that grow to be exceptionally large (anacondas, burmese pythons, alligators, caimans) almost always outgrow their owners ability to keep them.
When it comes to owning an animal and giving them the care they need, love does not conquer all. And it is so very clear the strong and abiding love these people and this lion shared. They made a responsible decision, that I know must have been very hard for them. I applaud them for it.

I read an article this morning about a domestic house cat who adopted a red panda baby to raise. I know my cats have always been great moms, with a few very notable exceptions - and any young first time mama is allowed a few mistakes and misgivings
but for the most part, cats are some of the very best and most loving animal mothers I’ve ever known.
In their honor, I added a mama cat with kittens coloring page over at Color-Your-Own.com and in the process found more amazing photos of cats who had adopted other animal babies. Here’s a cat who adopted some baby skunks! What was she thinking? And here is a whole bunch of loving animal momma’s who adopted other animal babies. Not only a hen who adopted kittens, but a cat who adopted chicks. Now that really tops it all!
Have a great day!

Being a stray dog in Moscow these days is not as bad as you might think. Stray dogs commonly ride the Metro and are regarded with some affection by most Moscovites. They even have a website dedicated to them. I wish I could read russian, but even without the text - the pictures speak for themselves of the gentle acceptance and caring for these stray dogs.
There’s even a group of zoologists studying the cities stray dogs and their adaptations to life in the city. Since the Soviet regime has fallen, the dogs are doing so well for scraps that they’ve gotten sleek and well-fed and even become a little bit picky about what they’ll eat! The dogs have learned to cross with pedestrians at cross-walks and also learned a little trick to get a person to drop their lunch so the dog can eat it!
Next thing you know, our strays here in the U.S. will learn to board a plane headed for Moscow…
